Even for the same wattage (Wp), TOPCon-based solar panels can perform better (or proudce more solar power). This is due to the better efficient solar cells used and lower degradation levels. Yes, hybrid rooftop solar systems are generally more expensive than normal GTI (Grid-Tied Inverter) based systems because they are designed to do more than just feed solar power into the grid. A standard GTI system mainly converts solar DC power into AC and synchronises it with the grid, making it relatively simple and cheaper. In contrast, a hybrid system can manage solar generation, battery storage, grid supply and backup loads simultaneously. This requires a more advanced inverter, additional battery bank, battery management system (BMS), protection equipment and often smarter energy management software. Batteries themselves are a major cost component, especially lithium-ion batteries, which significantly increase the project cost. Hybrid systems also involve more complex installation and wiring. However, they provide backup during power cuts, better energy independence and the ability to store excess solar power for evening use, which a normal GTI system cannot do.

This might be a little surprising, but solar generation doesn;t have much to do with how hot the weather is. Yes, summer days when it’s not cloudy are a great time to see solar kick in strongly,. but extreme heat is not good for generation as well.

This is because solar panels generate electricity thanks to the flow of electrons that are stimulated by light falling on the cell. Most panels available today are tested for optimum operations between 15 to 35 or even 40 degrees centigrade.

When temperatures spike, these electrons can bounce around too much and too fast, reducing voltage, or the amount of electricity generated.

Thus, for every rise in temperature beyond 38 degrees or so, efficiency can come down by 0.5%. At 45 degrees, you could be looking at a 3-4% drop in efficiency therefore.
Excessive heat can even lead to malfunctions of other parts in the system.

It depends on the sector of solar we talk about. Like for residential rooftop solar, govt gives subsidies of around Rs 78,000 for a 3 Kw system. In case of large projects, there are other incentives through Green Energy Open Access, incentives in transmission, land banks, plug and play services etc.
