    G12R-based modules are solar panels built using G12R (210R) size silicon wafers, a newer rectangular wafer format developed to improve module efficiency and manufacturing economics. In comparison, M10 modules use 182 mm square wafers, which have been widely used in the solar industry over the past few years.

    The key difference lies in wafer size and shape: G12R wafers are slightly larger and rectangular, allowing manufacturers to design modules with higher power output while maintaining manageable module dimensions for installation and transport. Because of this design, G12R modules can deliver higher wattage, better cell packing density, and improved production efficiency, while also helping reduce costs by lowering material usage and improving line utilization.

    These advantages are why many manufacturers see G12R as a next-generation mainstream format, especially as the industry moves toward high-efficiency N-type TOPCon technologies.

However, initially, most of their production is expected to be used for captive consumption. So you may not need modules manufactured by Reliance being available for sale until much later.

    However REC, a Singapore based firm that has been in the business of making solar modules  for a long time was acquired by Reliance Industries in 2021. To that extent, you can buy modules from a Reliance owned module manufacturer even today in India.

    Consumers who want to apply for the connections under the scheme can apply through the National Rooftop Solar Portal also called PM Surya Ghar Portal. Here the consumers need to make an online account with their mobile number and OTP, fill the form and submit their applications. Application is free of cost. After the application, the local power distribution company takes up the Feaibility Report and after that the consumer cabn choose their vendors who can install the project. Consumers also need to fill their bank account details and the government gives subsidies after the commissiong of the project. The subsidies comes after around 30days-45 days. Consumers can also track the status of their project and disbursement of the subsidies with this portal.

    It depends on the total capacity of solar panels and your electricity meter capacity. In most states the maximum capacity of rooftop solar a person can install in upto the total capacity of your power connection (meter). As per the MNRE benchmark price, the total cost for a 3Kw system is Rs 1.45 lakh. However, the final cost of the project is mutually decided by the consumer and solar vendor. So despite the MNRE benchmark price which is not mandatory, the solar project vendors install a 3 Kw system often at higher price ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh based on the technology, reputation of the vendor, services it is providing and other parameters.
